Budapest 100, Celebration of 100-Year Old Buildings
April 21 - April 22
Date: 21 – 22. April, 2018.
An open weekend for Budapest buildings that celebrate their 100th birthday in 2018.
The Budapest 100 is one my favourite programs and I wish it would last more than just two days.
This year you can pop again in some very unique buildings. Houses on the Danube river front will be in the focus over the 2 days.
You can explore the many cultural and historic monuments located along the more than 4 km long ring road (actually it’s only a semicircle).
It is impossible to go to all the walks, exhibitions, workshops and other happenings even if I try to select the most interesting/easily accessible ones.
In 2012 the list of buildings was based on local people’s reporting: 260 houses turned 100-year old in Budapest.
60 buildings (residential buildings, institutions) welcome visitors this year.
Former bank buildings, shops, schools, both in neglected and renovated state can be visited on a free guided tour during the two-day event on 18. and 19. April, Saturday and Sunday.
The event has a varied program (guided walk tours, exhibitions, movie screenings, workshops, picnic, wine tasting, children activities etc.), not exclusively for architecture buffs but everyone who loves to look into the history of buildings that we see or pass by every day.
Here is a selection – though most programs are in Hungarian (except for some guided walks in English) – I don’t think you wouldn’t enjoy them:
Entry is free to the buildings participating this year as well as to the programs, events.
Registration is required (open from 13. April) though in most cases at the e-mail address provided next to the program name on the organiser’s website.
