A great festival for book lovers.

Besides being an ideal place to get both newly published and older books at discount price, the festival offers a wide palette of programs (discussions, book signings, reading sessions etc.).

You can also meet many Hungarian and foreign authors.  The guest of honour this year is Orhan Pamuk.

This year’s guest of honour nation is Norway and  Karl Ove Knausgård with many programs focusing on Nordic literature and writers.

The European First Novel Festival is also part of the 4-day event.

Karl Ove Knausgård will receive the joint prize of the Municipal Council of Budapest and the Hungarian Publisher’s and Booksellers’ Association from deputy mayor of Budapest Alexandra Szalay Bobrovniczky and HPBA president András Sándor Kocsis.

European Writer’s Meeting

Children Programs on the Festival

Many programs and activities await children  in the Children’s Lit Kingdom, in the new National Dance Theatre of Millenáris Park.

Programs for the youngest generation of readers include:

  • concerts
  • craft workshops
  • interactive games
  • playhouse
  • folklore program, and from
  • many many wonderful books.

More than 300 new publishings, a host of international and local authors and around 350 cultural programs make the International Book Festival in Budapest a worthwhile event for both locals and tourists.
